1: Anglo-Dutch
Orange:
Rip to a real one, Willy III the OG. The Anglo-Dutch started the game ranked 60th, only behind Timor-Leste, nearly every test saw them get steamrolled by Brandenburg immediately, there was no hope for them. And yet, they stood, Brandenburg fucked up wars against them, multiple times, they were able to expand to most of France, even getting a city on the British Isles. Better than expected, but they also faced troubles there. Ireland took their island city, and they faced attacks from the Castilians in the south. They were on the backfoot most of the early game. Yet at one point, while giving away a major city to Normandy in the south, they also took a city off Ireland, someone who should’ve been by all accounts stronger than A-D, especially after giving away Amsterdam. Yet this saw a period of growth for A-D, they took a few more cities off of Ireland, then after more waiting they took even more, they were the new kings of the Isles. Yet sadly, this would not last forever, as despite the position they were still weak, and when total war hit, amazing for them getting that far in the first place though, Brandenburg, with their massive navy, finally turned towards A-D and started taking (and nuking) the Isles to dust, before long they were back in just France with three cities. But they didn’t go down without a fight, from here saw one of the most incredible plays, an A-D blitz that managed to take Berlin, the oppressors who started number 2 and always steamrolled them had their capital taken by the one they steamrolled. An absolutely stunning sight. Sadly, it was not meant to last, as despite the push they couldn’t face the force of the Turkish army.
The Anglo-Dutch knocked every expectation out of the water, not quite as stunning in display as Timor-Leste, and nowhere near as powerful, but they still did the seemingly impossible nonetheless. Maybe in another timeline they could’ve gotten even further, settling more of the British Isles, not giving away Amsterdam to Normandy, taking Ireland out earlier, getting in on Castile’s or Normandy’s demise. They had options they didn’t go for, and I really wished they would’ve gotten even bigger, but alas, they didn’t, and now their time is up. Rest in peace Willy, you did good, you did damn good.
